THE GREATEST DAYS PART 4
The music was playing softly in the background as they had finished the fabulous dinner. The wait staff quickly cleared dishes and glasses out of the way. The bridal party stood up from the table and started to walk toward the bar area. The massive wedding cake was on display there in the corner.
Honey grasped Trixie’s hand and gave it a squeeze.
“This day is the best, Trixie!” Honey whispered, smiling.
“It is!!! This has all come together perfectly!” Trixie released Jim’s hand to give her new sister-in-law a hug.
Mart was closest to the cake and made a production of presenting the newlyweds with the knife to cut it.
“Gee, Mart, didn’t you have enough to eat?” Trixie giggled.
“There is always room for wedding cake!” Mart tried to frown at his sister, but failed.
Jim moved closer to Trixie and they looked toward the wedding guests and their attendants. The photographer moved closer to capture the cake cutting.
Jim stepped behind his bride and put his arms around her to put his hand on top of hers on knife. The clicking cameras were all that they heard as they sliced into the cake.
Trixie quickly sliced a small piece of the cake for them to feed to each other. Jim was very careful to take a very small piece to offer Trixie. She looked up at him with her eyes shining with unshed tears, when she felt a plop of the frosting fall down her dress.
Jim’s eyes were wide in horror of dropping some cake on her, but Trixie giggled uncontrollably.
“Jim, it’s ok! You didn’t do it on purpose and no harm was done!” She tried to reassure him.
Honey was quick to hand Trixie some napkins, all the while making sure to check over the dress.
There wasn’t anything visible on the outside of the dress, but, Trixie took a napkin and wiped inside the top of the dress.
“I got it!!! Jim, it’s really ok! All better now!!”
Honey and Diana both started to giggle and Trixie joined them. The guys were all shaking their heads but smiling. Jim was still looking a little shaken, but Brian clapped his hand on Jim’s back, “It’s all good!”
Jim visibly relaxed again. “I’m Sorry Trixie.”
“No need to be, Sweetheart! Like I said, no harm done and you have to admit it was kind of funny!” Trixie smiled warmly and hugged Jim close.
Jim buried his face in Trixie’s hair, smelling the soft scent of coconut from her shampoo. He took a deep breath and relaxed. Pulling back, he continued to hold her, but looked down at her with his love shining from his green eyes.
“I’m very thankful for you and your love.” He said in a low voice.
Trixie reached a hand up and caressed his cheek. “I thank you for loving me and even wanting to marry me.”
Jim sported one of his lopsided grins, “Trixie, loving you is the easiest thing I’ve ever done! I’ve wanted to marry you for a long time now, and I thank God for each and every day I have had with you, and I look forward to many more years!”
“Years?” she asked with a wistful sound to her voice, “Hmm, I think I can do that.” She cocked her head to match his grin.
“I surely hope so!”
“Okay, how about for the rest of my life?!”
“Do you mean for the rest of our lives?”
“I love the sound of being together for the rest of our lives!” They moved closer together and Jim softly kissed his bride.
